His Story
Early Devotion and Family Impact
Born in London on May 3, 1991, and raised in Milan, Carlo Acutis showed an unusual love for God from childhood, despite his parents’ lukewarm faith. His devotion to daily Mass and the Eucharist inspired his mother’s conversion and even influenced others, like a family au pair who became Catholic through Carlo’s witness. His empathy was evident in how he defended classmates, supported friends during family struggles, and cared for the poor and marginalized.
Technology and Evangelization
Carlo combined his love for computers with his devotion to Christ. A self-taught coder, he created a website cataloging Eucharistic miracles that has since become a global exhibition, strengthening faith worldwide. Though he enjoyed soccer and video games, he practiced discipline, limiting gaming time and using his friendships as opportunities to share the importance of faith and sacraments.
Suffering and Sanctity
At 15, Carlo was diagnosed with leukemia. He offered his suffering for the pope and the Church, showing remarkable maturity and trust in God. He died on October 12, 2006, and was buried in Assisi, dressed in the casual clothes he loved. His humility, joyful spirit, and deep Eucharistic devotion became a model of holiness for the digital age.
Canonization and Legacy
Declared Venerable in 2018, Blessed in 2020, and canonized on September 7, 2025, Carlo is remembered as a modern saint who shows that holiness is attainable for everyone—even teenagers in sneakers. His famous words, “The Eucharist is my highway to heaven,” capture his belief that God calls all people to sanctity. His life stands as a witness that holiness is not distant, but possible here and now.
